2-8-12 Thursday

My apologies for not updating sooner; I have been ill and out of school.


Creative Foods: after learning about Yeast Breads, we completed a yeast bread lab. This week, we have been discussing vegetables, vitamins, knife skills, and the basic knife cuts. Today, we made a stir fry which utilized students' knife skills and their abilities to multi task. Students today were able to see the importance of both mise en place and avoiding cross contamination.

Independent Living: After completing a unit on customer rights and responsibilities, we began learning about laundry. Today, we completed a stain removal lab. I gave samples of various stains, and students attempted to clean the fabric swatch and remove the stain. Some were more successful than others, further proving that buying a stain remover is probably a basic necessity for living on your own.

Life Skills 7: After learning about vitamins, we completed a fruit pizza lab yesterday (4A) and today (4B). It smelled delicious, and the fruit we added definitely increased the nutrient level of our treat.
